RESEARCH: MOVIE POSTER ANALYSIS

  • Google research- IMDB
  • We know our genre is drama

  • Looking for posters blended with several images to give more of an idea to the audience what the film is going to be about.
  • Bronson movie poster
  • (scream movie poster) we are looking of a grungy look to show the main victims and the attacker.
  • Perhaps the X men movie poster.
  • The hunger games face poster, or the face to face poster.
  • (American hustle) our movie has passed the test, all men and women are equal. there is the ghost and Chris.
  • Bechdel test.
  • Real steel.
  • The incredible Hulk Bruce banner and hulk poster together.
  • Alex cross movie
I have been set the task to critically analyse different movie posters and how they give audiences more of an idea on what the film is all about.

My group and I are looking for posters blended with several images of important characters to give the audiences more of an idea about the film. We would like something that shows the main victims and the attacker on the poster. The biggest inspiration for our movie poster idea is the movie poster of "Scream" which is displayed below:

This poster " Scream" shows the main victims in the film and this is what we would like in our film poster. Also, the poster cleverly shows that the characters are shown in different sizes and to me, this suggests the importance of each of the these characters, some more than others. I believe that if we follow this structure in our movie poster, it will help the audience understand the different characters and how significant each character is going to be in the film.

DEFINITION:

I looked up the definition of movie poster to lean and understand what the true meaning of a movie poster to help dictate in my own interpretation why we have layered out our movie poster the way we did. Here is the definition: "A movie poster is a poster used to advertise a film. Studios often print several posters that vary in size and content for various domestic and international markets. They normally contain an image with text. Today's posters often feature photographs of the main actors".

  1. Your research should lead you to identify the codes and conventions of the genre. This post is on the descriptive side rather than being entirely analytical. You do draw attention to the significance of composition, but need to point out what other features are normally found on a film poster.
