RESEARCH: THE BOY FILM TRAILER

For the film trailer itself, I thought it would be a good idea to gain some ideas on how professionals structure a film trailer critically, so that my group and I can replicate their footsteps into producing a successful film project. I grasped some ideas from a upcoming horror film called 'The Boy' directed by William Brent Bell and written by Stacey Menear. The chilling concept is about a British couple who hire a young American nanny to care for their son, who turns out to be a 8 year-old real life sized doll.

This may not correlate to out genre of film, but I was deeply drawn by the trailer as it contains a series of inexplicable and thrilling events and our has hints of horror with out protagonist of the film, as he mourns for the loss of his sister.

The opening of the film trailer consists of very monotone digetic sound, which in my opinion, creates subtle drama and enigma as we see the protagonist of the film slowly come out of the car being very cautious of her whereabouts. We then have a short snippet of a old woman peering through the window of a mysterious 1890's style house. These dramatic sounds and camera angles can set the scene for our film trailer and could be a good example for our group to establish.

Below is the official trailer for "The Boy"

  2. I was particularly drawn to the music in the background right at the beginning of the trailer as I feel it would set the mood perfectly with our trailer.
